#1 Philips Norelco Beardtrimmer 9100 With Laser Guides

Philips Norelco Beardtrimmer 9199 review

Since its release in January of 2014, the Philips Norelco BT9285/41 9100 Beard Trimmer has captured the top ranking as one of the all-time best trimmers of facial hair for men. The Norelco 9100 has two unique features that have debuted on this model which are not found on any other. The first incredibly handy feature is a strong, reversible, dual sided blade that provides a wide side for trimming large areas of the face or neck and a narrow side that allows for reaching smaller, more difficult areas around the nose, chin, and mouth.

Flawless cuts, straight lines, and perfect trims are easily achieved with this dual-sided blade feature making the Norelco 9100 an all-inclusive trimming unit. The second impressive feature is a laser guide which helps make precise cuts and lines. Although the laser guides best assists those new to electric shaver trimming or those who enjoy sculpting detailed design lines and shapes in their beard, others simply seeking a good, clean trim will more than likely seldom, if ever, use this feature.

This unit also allows for 17 settings that range from 0.2mm to 7mm for various precise hair length cuts. The lithium battery contained with the Philips Norelco 9100 Beard Trimmer provides as much as 60 minutes worth of operation time on short 1-hour charge. What’s more, if you ever get caught mid-trim with a battery drain, simply plug the charging cord into the unit and a power source and use the same as a corded trimmer!

Pros:

  • Excellent value for the money
  • Reversible, dual-sided, self-sharpening blade makes both wide cuts and detailed trims a breeze
  • Laser guide great for newbies or detail stylists
  • 17 trim length adjustments present maximum performance options
  • A 1-hour charge of the lithium battery provides up to 60 minutes of trim time
  • Unit can be converted into a corded trimmer during complete battery drains
  • Fully water resistant for fast, easy cleaning
Cons:

  • Laser guide may be useless for experienced trimmers or those seeking only traditional trims

#2 Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 7300 Review

Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 7300 Review

Update: There is a new version of the Norelco beardtrimmer 7300 called Philips Norelco Beardtrimmer 7200 Vacuum Beard Trimmer (pictured below). The model number is BT7215/49 and it was released in February 2016. It is much more advanced than the 7300 and has receive good praise from users. Click here to read more about the new trimmer or click here to see what users are saying about it.

The Philips Norelco QT4070/41 Beard Trimmer 7300 is a renaming of the QT4070 Vacuum Beard, Stubble, and Mustache Trimmer Pro and packaging may reflect the differences even though the product is virtually the same. The electric Beard Trimmer 7300 by Norelco is the newest model in the unique stubble trimming line for men that utilizes a vacuum system to retrieve cut facial hair without leaving a mess. Trimmings are captured in the handle of the unit which can then be easily deposited in a waste can.

Not only does the Beard Trimmer 7300 clean your face, but it keeps your sink and clothes clean as well. The trimmer blades can be set using a lock wheel that easily adjusts to 18 varied lengths ranging from 1mm to 18mm, plus a 1/2mm setting for those desiring to maintain a sexy five o’clock shadow. Your length selection is conveniently displayed in bright numbers on the multifunctional screen, so you know exactly what you’re getting. The blades are self-sharpening, and neither they nor the base unit requires oiling. The attached comb provides blade protection as well as guidance across facial curves providing a gentle, smooth shaving experience.

However, the ranking for this trimmer shaver falls short of 5 stars due to the sharp tines of the comb which can cut or puncture the skin in tender areas. Another attractive feature of the Norelco 7300 beard trimmer is the Turbo Power button which provides an extra boost in fan and blade speed so that trimming can be achieved more rapidly. The powerful design of the Beard Trimmer 7300 also receives a thumbs-up review due to its use with or without a power cord. The cordless approach runs on a rechargeable lithium battery that offers nearly an hour’s use from a one hour charge using the included charging adapter.

The multifunctional display reveals the charge level of the battery for easy tracking. The Norelco 7300 can also be used with its included power cord so that battery life can be preserved when a power source is available. The electric trimmer also offers a lock protection feature so that it is not accidentally turned on while traveling. According to this review, the Philips Norelco QT4070/41 Beard Trimmer 7300 is one of the best beard trimmers on the market.

#3 Oster 76076-010 Classic 76 Professional Hair Clipper

Oster Classic 76 Universal clipper

Saving money by cutting your own hair instead of going to the barbershop is a breeze today with top professional hair clippers like the Oster 76076-010 Classic 76. As you will see in this review, the small investment in power, quality, and ease that Oster Classic 76 provides can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars over the life of the product. These professional hair clippers contain a universal 45-watt motor that is both heavy duty and powerful to provide quick and effective cuts through wet or thick hair. Cuts are made evenly in only one pass without annoying pulling or tugging. The powerful motor does vibrate and produces a fairly loud noise, especially when cutting around the ears, but cuts are flawless. The Oster 76076-010 is also a bit heavy for some users (around 2 pounds), but others find its weight a plus for performance and rank it well.

This electric clipper for men is extremely well built with a strong valox resin casing and a heavy duty power cord. The on-off switch is also strategically located on the back of the unit reducing accidental engagements. The Classic 76 comes with a #000 blade that provides a nearly bald cut (to 0.5mm) as well as an additional #1 blade that cuts to 2.4mm which can be easily changed if needed. Although the blades are not adjustable as with cheaper models, they are made via a treatment called ‘CryoGen’ which makes them durable and long-lasting.

The kit does not come with attachment combs, but they can be purchased separately if desired. The kit provides the electric Oster clippers, 2 Croygen-X blades, blade oil and guard, grease for the clipper motor, brush for cleaning and instructions. Oster is one of the best names in the hair cutting industry and this Oster 76076-010 Classic 76 Professional Hair Clipper is highly rated and meets cutting expectations. Although this model may be a bit more expensive than other hair clippers, the quality of both the product and its performance make it a top choice for barbershop quality cuts and long lasting durability.

Pros

  • Professional barbershop quality haircuts at home provide big savings
  • Powerful 45-watt motor easily cuts even thick or wet hair on the first pass without pulling
  • Contains a strong #000 CryoGen treated blade with additional #1 blade that is easily interchangeable
  • Heavy duty case and power cord mean long-lasting performance
  • Easily attachable combs are sold separately for further hair cutting options
Cons

  • Are a bit noisy
  • Cause vibration
  • Can be too heavy for some people

#4 Philips Norelco 5100 Beard & Head Trimmer (BT5275/41) Review

Philips Norelco 5100 beard & head trimmer review

The Philips Norelco BT5275/41 5100 Beard Trimmer provides men with nice trims at the best price. The middle section of the 5100 Beard Trimmer provides a selection of cutting blade adjustments. There are 17 hair length cutting adjustment selections for the self-sharpening blades that range from 0.4mm up to 10mm. The head rotation feature allows for smooth, convenient cutting of facial hair over all curves and areas of the face without pulling.

Detailed trimming for small areas, such as around the lips and sideburns, is easily completed via a small cutting blade located on the reverse side of the main cutting blade. Only one plastic comb attachment is provided in the initial kit which snaps on and off the blade housing using convenient guides. However, some reviewers lower the ranking due to the comb being difficult to remove once it locks into place.

Removal requires the comb level to be raised to its max setting, meaning loss of the initial desired setting. The lithium ion battery is rechargeable by using the included AC adapter. The Norelco 5100 electric beard trimmer does not have a charging base, but instead requires the adapter be plugged into the unit’s bottom and a power outlet. This makes for awkward recharging and has led to some low rating marks. The battery can be fully charged in 1 hour and provides a lengthy use time on a single charge.

This beard trimmer works well on dry, damp or wet beards, but it is not waterproof so care should be taken when used around water. The back of the unit contains a rubber thumb rest, providing additional grip control. This model advertises a digital readout display which is actually a beard trimming setting sticker.

The good news is that extra power is not needed for an actual digital display. The 5100 Beard Trimmer also does not come with a travel bag so extra care must be used to properly pack it for travel to avoid damage or loss of parts. According to this review, the Philips Norelco BT5275/41 5100 Beard Trimmer is a sturdy product that performs well for the price.

Pros:

  • Does a good job of beard trimming at an affordable price
  • Plenty of blade adjustment options for a just right trim
  • Blades are self-sharpening
  • Rotating head allows for smooth, even trimming on all parts of the face with minimal passes and no hair pulling
  • Fully charges in 60 minutes and provides equal trim time
Cons:

  • Comb can be difficult to remove
  • Does not use a base charger which makes recharging awkward
  • Does not come with a travel bag

#5 Andis Master Hair Clipper (01557) Review

Andis Master Hair Clipper Review

This review will help you decide if the Andis Master Hair 01557 Clipper is right for you. This model of Andis clipper carries a high ranking and is designed to be used by professional barbers for hair fading, outlining and other designing techniques. If you do not have experience in hair designing then this product may be much more than you need. However, people with this type of experience will find that the Andis Master Hair Clipper is one of the best on the market for creating freehand fades and clipper over combs as well as polishing up existing designs.

They are also great for correcting mistakes in lines and other designs. As a top freehand tool, the Master Hair Clipper is ideal for those seeking to freehand fades, fros, beards, flat tops and making other types of designs. Precise design cutting control is achieved by using the adjustable side lever which makes detailing fine to coarse hair a breeze. The durable housing is made from sturdy, lightweight aluminum, which makes these clippers extremely tough.

However, the aluminum casing can become hot if used for an extended period of time (approximately 20 minutes or more) as well as slippery and more difficult to grasp as heat builds up and hands sweat. The Master Hair Clipper is also fairly heavy, weighing 1.8 pounds. Dry and wet hair are both easily manipulated without pulling or clogging due to the high-speed motor that sends blades buzzing at 14000 strokes a minute.

Blades can be adjusted from #000 (1/5”) to #1 (1/8”) and must be oiled while in use. The unit is quite noisy initially, but it can be toned down considerably using the adjustment screw located on the side. Just take care not to over tighten the screw as it can significantly slow the blades and present clogging problems. The Andis Master Hair 01557 Clipper is highly rated as one of the best electric tools available for hair design sculpting and detailing.

Pros:

  • Precise outlining, shaping, tapering and designing of hair
  • Carbon steel blades are durable and can be adjusted
  • Powerful high speed motor easily cuts all types of hair either dry or wet
  • Motor can be adjusted to run quietly
  • Lightweight aluminum casing is tough and easy to control during short tasks
Cons:

  • Although casing is considered to be made of lightweight aluminum, the clipper itself is fairly heavy at 1.8 pounds
  • Aluminum casing becomes hot and slippery during prolonged use
  • Extra blade guides are not included and must be purchased separately
  • No travel case is provided

#6 Wahl Lithium Ion Cordless Clipper (79600-2101) Review

Wahl Lithium Ion Cordless Clipper Review

Wahl has always been a leading manufacturer of quality electric shavers at a good value. The 79600-2101 Cordless Clipper follows the tradition, only adding the improvement of a lithium ion battery which boosts its ranking. Ni-Cad batteries tend to lose ‘memory’ and eventually do not hold a good charge and NiMH batteries are even worse in that they lose charge even when not in use. A full charge of the lithium battery produces around 40 minutes of run time.

When you need a fast charge to complete a trimming task, the Wahl Lithium Ion Cordless Clipper offers 12 minutes of run time on a fast 15-minute charge. This offer also comes with an accompanying mini trimmer that offers decent power on a single AA battery. The Wahl Cordless Clipper has self-sharpening blades that easily cut thick, coarse hair of men without pulling or leaving lines.

This is due to the electric motor that provides 50 percent more power than other standard Wahl clippers. Detailed, precision trims and contoured shapes can be accomplished during full cuts or touch-ups. A lever located on the side of the unit allows for fast clipper cut adjustments. The downside to past models is that the head does not remove for easy cleaning. Built up hair must be blown out or whisked out using the included mini brush.

It also possesses a sleek, modern design that is attractive and comfortable to hold. A number of clipper accessories are included in this offer providing it with an even greater rating, including half-a-dozen combs, a pair of inexpensive scissors, oil for cutting head lubrication, and a barber’s cape with is extremely useful if you don’t already have one.

wahl lithium ion clipper box contents

There are also several attachments for the additional mini clipper. A zip closure case is also included to hold everything in place for storage or travel. According to this review, the Wahl 79600-2101 Cordless Clipper with Lithium Ion battery is one of the best values for the money.

Pros:

  • Top value for the money
  • Lithium-ion battery provides long use on full charge and charges quickly for fast use
  • The motor is powerful and easily cuts thick or coarse hair without pulling or leaving lines
  • Sleek, modern design that is attractive and easy to hold
  • The included mini trimmer cuts well and performs a long time on 1 AA battery
  • The set comes with a large selection of accessories
Cons:

  • Lithium battery loses power quickly when charge is low (although it charges quickly as well)
  • The head is not removable as with other Wahl models

#7 Wahl Trimmer All-In-One Lithium Ion

Wahl Lithium Ion All In One Grooming Kit

With nearly 100 years in the electric clipper business, Wahl’s experience usually produces high quality, top rated products. The Wahl Trimmer All-In-One is a bit disappointing as far as keeping with the standard goes. The addition of the lithium ion battery is extremely welcomed since it provides the unit with a full charge in only 1 hour, which is sufficient to make numerous trims. Even if the trimmer is flat drained, a minute charge is enough to complete a quick clean up.

The lithium ion battery provides juice for a powerful motor that tackles the coarsest beard hair and removes body hair without pulling or clogging. Although sufficient torque is produced and the All-In-One fits well in the hand, the unit produces elevated noise and vibration. The Wahl All-In-One comes with 4 blade attachments all designed to tackle a different task. The Clipper Blade is actually more useful as a trimmer.

The T-shaped design produces crisp lines and cuts fairly close which is good for touch ups around the ears and sideburns. The mini foil Dual Shaver Blade is a bit better, delivering acceptable closeness during cleanups which makes it handy for fast office or travel shaves. However, true haircutting and clean shaving should be left to a clipper and shaver designed for it. Somewhat narrower than the Clipper is the Trimmer Blade which is also great for edging, trimming and cleaning. The last blade attachment is the Precision Detailer which is narrow and designed for getting into tight places like detailed facial hair designs or the ears and nose.

However, it fails to deliver pleasing results. Switching from one blade to another can be annoying as the process is tedious and instructions are vague. The set comes with an abundance of attachments, most of which will not be used. Three trim guards fit the Clipper and Trimmer blades which are usable, but the six position guard for the Trimmer Blade is difficult to attach as well as adjust.

wahl trimmer all-in one grooming kit contents

A tray is also included for organizing pieces, but it is small, looks cheap, does not hold pieces well and a bit of a disappointment. According to this review, the Wahl Trimmer All-In-One with Lithium Ion battery produces only a decent rating for its lithium battery and power and efficiency in trimming, but lacks in its ability to effortlessly change blades and low accessory quality.

Pros:

  • The lithium ion battery charges quickly and both holds and provides power over long periods
  • Powerful motor provides sufficient torque to offer clean and comfortable trimming of both facial and body hair
  • The foil shaver head attachment is a handy addition for quick shaves at the office or while traveling
Cons:

  • Motor produces elevated noise and vibration
  • The ear, nose and eyebrow trimmer attachment is not effective
  • Poor accessory quality

Links in this review therefore goes direct to the new beard trimmer because the old one has been discontinued and no longer available for purchase.

Philips-Norelco-MultiGroom-7100-trimmer-review.

Men seeking to avoid or replace numerous electric trimming devices in lieu of utilizing one unit will want to consider the Philips Norelco QG3280 Multigroom Pro highlighted in this review. The Multigroom Pro is definitely an all-in-one shaver, trimmer and groomer that can tackle most all head, facial and body hair challenges easily. The lithium battery is a definite plus as it allows for full charging of the unit within an hour, provides a lengthy performance time, and holds the charge over a long period.

An LED light indicates charging (orange) and fully charged (green) and the unit cannot be used while plugged in for the charging process. There are 8 attachments that come with the Norelco Multigroom Pro that allow you to achieve practically any hair trimming feat. Blade adjustments are made easy by simply pushing a button located on the back of the unit and selecting the length shown on length indicator.

The full sized trimmer attachment can be used without adding a comb to produce a stubble look. A precision detail trimmer head gives you the ability to create and manage any hair style you desire. A hair clipper comb adjusts to 9 positions allowing for body hair to be neatly styled and trimmed. A beard and mustache comb also provides 9 positions for creating and finishing facial hair tasks. The mini-shaver attachment is great for completing and cleaning up trim jobs on the face and neck. Ear, nose and eyebrow hairs are kept in check with a tool specifically designed for the job.

The 5 position body comb attachment allows for body hair trimming to desired lengths, and the body groom shaving head provides clean shaves and less skin irritation due to its hypoallergenic foil covering. The Multigroom Pro is fully water resistant, allowing it to be used in the shower and easily cleaned under running tap water. A downside is that the trimmer can become clogged if attempts are made at cutting hair that is too long. This problem is best resolved by trimming long hair in increments.

Philips Norelco multigroom 7100 box contents

Attachments for the Norelco Multigroom Pro are a breeze to change via the device’s snap-in system. Simply snap a preferred attachment on effortlessly. Removal is accomplished by using a release button on the main body of the unit. A word of caution, both the release button and the blade adjustment button can be easy to hit accidently while repositioning the unit in your hand during trimming. The Philips Norelco QG3280 Multigroom Pro deserves a high ranking due to its all round good performance for the price.

Pros:

  • Contains a powerful motor that easily tackles any hair trimming task
  • The lithium ion battery charges fast and provide extended power
  • All-in-one product that cuts, shaves and trims all types of body hair
  • Operates in either wet or dry conditions
Cons:

  • Care must be taken with the blade adjustment and comb release buttons when handling the unit
  • Clogging can occur from shaving long hair
  • The device cannot be used while charging (but it charges quickly)
